Exploding Misconceptions - Part 1
First of all, most Christians and Jews don't know anymore about the Bible than what the Pastor/Rabbi tells them. One must take the time to study the Bible for themselves to see what it really says, not what some man said that it says. The Pastor/Rabbi that you are under is not the absolute final word on what the bible says or what one should believe. God Himself has left us His written word - the Bible. Anything that contradicts the Bible should therefore not be believed. The Bible, God's written word, is the final authority on what one should believe, teach, say, think, and do.
Secondly, the Tanach (short for Torah (Law or Instruction), Neviim (Prophets), and Ketuvim (writings)), which is also called the "Old Testament," and the B'rit Hadashah (the New (or Renewed) Covenant ("Testament")) not only do not contradict one another, but one gains greater understanding of the one when one understands the other better, and visa versa.
Third, Christians do no not believe in three gods. Christians believe that the God of the Bible - the God of the Jews, is one God and that He is a tripartite being. God made man in His own image and after His own likeness. Man is also a tripartite being. We have a ruach (spirit), we are a nephesh (living soul), and we have a body. Three parts, one man. Our soul is the interface between our spirit and our body. Our "heart" is the interface between our spirit and our soul. Our mind is the interface between our soul and our body. God is the Father (Abba (Daddy)), the Word (also called the Son because He was made flesh and dwelt among us) which is Yeshua HaMashiach (Jesus the Messiah, the Christ, the Anointed One), and the Ruach Hachodesh (the Holy Spirit.)
This is further illustrated by the universe itself. The universe is composed of three parts, each of which is composed of three parts. The universe is (1) three dimensional space, (2) time, and (3) matter/energy. We know about three dimensional space as being length, width, and height. We also know that time is past, present, and future. With time, we see that the present is the interface between the past and the future. The past flows into the present, and the future flows out of the present. With matter and energy, we know that matter is a form of energy because of Einstein's equation E=MC2. We know that on a large scale, matter can be either solid, liquid, gaseous, or super heated into a plasma form. It is in the strange world of particle physics on the subatomic level, that we see matter and energy flow together. Waves of energy and particles take on both characteristics. The energy in light travels in waves and also as packets of energy called photons. It is on this level that other unusual phenomenon occur, like an electron will go through one or the other of two openings in a barrier wall when people are looking. But it will go through both at the same time when nobody's looking! (There also appears to be another dimension associated with this level, turn an atom over here and one far away will simultaneously turn in the same direction!)
Forth, Jesus' last name isn't Christ, and He doesn't reside at One Vatican Lane. Christ comes from the Greek word christos which means anointed. Messiah comes from the Hebrew word mashiach which means anointed (one). Therefore, Christ = Anointed (One) = Messiah. Jesus' name in Hebrew is Yeshua. Yeshua is rendered in our English Bibles as either Joshua, Jeshua, or Jesus.
We'll continue this in the next post. In the mean time, please consider the post called, "Consider This."
